Using Tiles.art-Files
- Hi there,
now that I'm starting to deal with Duke3DW I wonder how to use Maps including additional Tiles.art-files. Before Duke3DW I used to drag them all into the Duke3d.exe ... but now I got this comfy "game loader" :)
How does it work here? How do I play using Tiles.art-Files? Re: Using Tiles.art-Files
Ok, lets say you have a map called Lapd.map and some art files.
Zip up the .art files and call the file the same as your map file but add _Hrp.zip
eg:
Lapd_Hrp.zip
If you have any extra sound files or any type of file that belongs to the map, just add it to the zip file.
Put the zip file in the Maps folder with the .map file.
Thats it, Duke3dw will now load it.- Great, it works just fine :) Thanks again.
But I got another question regarding this topic: What do I do with those kind of maps which are designed to be some kind of TC? For example:
I've got some levels using their own User.com, Game.con, Defs.con and some Midi-files. As you say I can put them all together into one ZIP-archive, rename it porperly and start the map like this. But there are several Maps which come with more than one MAP-file. How Do I start them?
The old Readme said "Create a new Duke3D directory and replace all files when prompted" ... but that was in those days. Can I create some kind of GRP-file out of these?
Thanks in advance
Chriss - Ok here is what you do.
Lets say the files all belong to a Addon called whatever
You may need to edit the User.con to add new Episode names, and add the map names etc
1. Create a dummy folder.
2. Put all the files in that folder.
3. Rename its Game.con to whatever.con (same name as the addon)
4. Zip up the folder contents (do not save the path info in winzip) and call it whatever.zip (the addon name)
5. Copy the whatever.zip and the whatever.con files into the Games folder.
6. Go Play. - Thank you. But what if there is no Game.con? Like this one:
http://www.fileplanet.com/121410/120000/fileinfo/NIB:-Nightmare-Edition-TC
... and where do I have to state the Name of the new Episode in the User.con? - If there is no Game.con then just leave it out, as Duke3dw will load the original.
The Episode and map names you put in the User.con file, see:
// Volume titles cannot excede 32 characters.
definevolumename 0 Escape from State Prison
definevolumename 1 LUNAR APOCALYPSE
definevolumename 2 SHRAPNEL CITY
definevolumename 3 THE BIRTH
// Skill titles cannot excede 32 characters.
defineskillname 0 PIECE OF CAKE
defineskillname 1 LET'S ROCK
defineskillname 2 COME GET SOME
defineskillname 3 DAMN I'M GOOD
// Level file names cannot excede 128 characters.
// Level par cannot excede 5 characters (min:sec)
// Level titles cannot excede 32 characters.
definelevelname 0 0 escape1.map 01:45 00:53 Escape 1
definelevelname 0 1 escape2.map 05:10 03:21 Escape 2
definelevelname 0 2 escape3.map 05:35 03:41 Escape 3
definelevelname 0 3 escape4.map 07:20 04:40 Escape 4
definelevelname 0 4 escape5.map 09:10 05:00 Escape 5
definelevelname 0 5 E1L6.map 05:15 02:58 LAUNCH FACILITY
definelevelname 0 6 E1L7.map 00:00 00:00 FACES OF DEATH
definelevelname 0 7 E1L8.map 99:99 99:99 USER MAP
definelevelname 0 8 E1L9.map 12:48 16:32 VOID ZONE
definelevelname 0 9 E1L10.map 07:44 11:38 ROACH CONDO
definelevelname 0 10 E1L11.map 08:67 53:09 ANTIPROFIT
Sometimes addons/maps use a outdated con file from Duke3d Version 1.3d, so unless you convert a Atomic v1.5 con file, then you cannot add map names and episodes etc and need to rename the maps same as original game, ie: E1L1.map etc - Hey and thanks again ... I think I'm catching on, but there are still some levels/ TCs I can't get to work with your port. For example "Castle Dukenstein":
http://dukenukem3dtc.tripod.com/id59.html
When I start one of the two ZIP-files which are contained in the download-file there's no change to starting up the normal game. - There are several old TC's that are still dedicated to Duke3d Version 1.3d which wont run correctly and need the Atomic addition CON files to get then running.
This is a modified version that someone did and it seems to work ok.
http://www.proasm.com/files/dntcs/dukestein.zip - So there's no way for me to play several TCs unless I get to know how to edit the CON-files for my current DN3D Version, right? Is there a tutorial anywhere available? I mean, it's nice that you are able to help out every time I got a question, but I guess it would be a lot easier if I were able to edit things like that myself, hm? :)
btw ... thanks again for the file :) - There are many TC's and Addons for the Atomic addition, play them first then worry about the older ones.
I have about 3000 maps and 150 odd Addons/Conversions that have already been modified so if there is something you need just ask as the chances are pretty good that I'll have it :)
Oh btw, regarding the modifying of the con files, I did have an app somewhere that did it all for you, but I don't know where it is.
I'll dig around for it and get back to you.Edited by ProAsm at
