It works, but instead of a crosshair, I have a grey block in the center of the screen. The same thing happens with eDuke32. I tried installing it into a DOS installation of the Atomic edition and the crosshair shows up normally. I'd much rather play it with JFDuke though.
Beyond looking ugly, the block obscures the view of enemies in the distance, making it harder to aim. How can I get the crosshair back?

Re: No crosshair in Duke it out in DC?
Ok, this is really strange. When I zip all the files for DukeDC and run it with the command;
Duke3D /gDukeDC.zip
The game works, but I get a block instead of crosshairs. If I install it to a DOS installation of Duke 3D and then replace the original EXE file with JFDuke, it works 100%.
It would seem to me that it's a case of my main installation of JFDuke not using the proper files inside the archive, however from what I can see, there's no files in the JFDuke installation that would over-ride any of those in the DukeDC.zip file. In fact the only thing I ever copied to the JFDuke directory was the Duke3D.grp file. I have no con files, no defs files, etc.
I can't figure out what magical combination of files in the archive and command line arguments will allow JFDuke to load the DukeDC expansion as if it was using a DOS installation of it.
On a related question; Why is that all of these "mod-friendly" games never have a simple menu option to load an expansion pack? Sure some of them have an option to load a single level, but playing any kind of expansion (official or user-created) almost always involves replacing some files, editing some files, using various command line arguments, etc.

Try putting the contents inside of a grp file instead of a zip file. There's a bug with zip support that causes random art tiles to turn completely black if the engine has to load any of the tiles???.art files from them.

Thanks! I was wondering if it was something like this since it works in a subdirectory, but not as a zip file.
Update: I created a GRP file instead of zip and now it works perfectly. Thanks again!
