Re: Blood Port
The Blood source code hasn't been released yet, so there's no port for it unfortunately.

My cousin was recently hired at Warner. I'll pay him a visit next month, there's a vague chance he might be able to shed some light on the status of the source code. Apparently he has some contacts, but it's very unlikely they work for the legal department.

Is the alpha code of blood useful enough to make a port ? technical speaking, how much functionality is missing compared to the gold/master code? If it’s less then ,say 40%, it might be worth a shot. Sure it wouldn’t be perfect, but it’s better then nothing.
I’m guessing it isn’t that easy otherwise their would probably be somebody doing it right now. I just hope the legal barrier isn’t what keeps programmers at bay.
I really do believe and respect copyrights and stuff. But this game is 10 years old. And it isn’t for sale anymore (expect maybe some ebay auctions, and even then it pretty much stays are rare game). So I can’t believe it would harm the developer/publisher.
I also heard the rumor that the source code could be lost. But that’s also quite hard to believe. I mean, it was such a big title for monolith. Their ought to be some kind of backup. I’m worried that programmers who are in possession of such backups are afraid because of the legal stuff.

Pretty much everything is missing. This has been discussed before and the answer is always the same; not possible.

So, Maren, did you contact your cousin yet? Although probably that wont help much, since monolith and its parent company dont own the rights to blood. Atari/infogrames do. I recently sent them an email asking about the current state of the game. Im hoping they'll reply. Hey, what if they sold the rights to that game? Since they are in financial problems they'd probably consider it. Also, it's not only enough that they release the source code, but if they do, they have to release it under a gpl-like license, or a bsd one, and probably they wont, out of simple ignorance of those licenses. As you may know, monolith released the source code of No one lives forever, but under a propietary license, so, beyond compiling the code and educating oneself from it, nothing can be done with it.

@nullpoint: I did and he was unable to even get someone to corroborate they knew Blood existed. No surprise though ::)

I think that this was the closest the source code got to being released (GT were swallowed by Atari) http://www.ataricommunity.com/forums/showthread.php?t=401809

Petitions are useless.

what does one do if they downloaded the full blood source twice when it was available for the 4 weeks or so from their site? Is it legal to release even when one has an email from one of the blood programmers wishing me luck in trying to code the blood exe to work on other 3d cards besides 3dfx? He encouraged me to download the source code and have a go. I responded in email that i did twice.

You could always just do it and post videos to tease us, until such a time as you feel certain you can.

At the very least you'll need to find who holds the rights to the code and ask them about it.
