Is there any free opensource content project for Duke3d, jmuch like Open Quartz and Freedoom?
It could be called Dave Gnukem 3D because there's an open source platformer with the name of Dave Gnukem :P

So far there are projects working on 3D models and hires textures, which are free to distrbute http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=771097&an=0&page=0#771097 There are remakes of the game music as well, but you would have to use another port to play them, which coincidently doesn't support the new textures and models. While the texture and model projects are still active, the only things that haven't been touched are the sounds and maps. While 3D Realms might allow remakes of the sounds, the maps would be another issue. Considering the amount of work that would be required to remake all of the game maps from scratch, even if 3D Realms would allow it, there are so few active "builders" left in the community it's very unlikely that it would ever be done.

I forgot to mention I was talking about fresh, new from scratch (in concept) content, not reproductions of the original Duke work. :P

Isn't that what freedoom is, a free remake of doom? However, unlike freedoom there aren't any free versions of the textures in build's art file format. The point is anyone can take the hires reproductions or ANY free textures they choose and place them into the game. At this point it's no longer necessary to import textures into art files in order to get them into the game, even though you could do so if that's what you wanted. As soon as JonoF gets around to the sound system the same will go for sounds as well.

Sort of. They don't have resemblances of the old imp, cacodaemon, zombies, etc.

It's basically people trying to get out of paying for DOOM by making their own IWAD. It was meant for everyone who didn't own the DOOM IWADs and so did something slightly more idiotic than piracy.

Well the released GPL source code allows such production, I can't see a problem with it.
Most elitists who already got their Doom hate Freedoom though and have reasons like you said :P but I support it, because it's all remade in a new creative, community based fashion. It's like playing a refreshing TC without changing the rules (which is nice).

Right now I really don't see much interest for FreeDuke in the community, but that shouldn't stop you from doing it. Like I said, you're already free to use any art you want, JonoF's port supports full color textures. If you prefer to recreate the exprience of the orginal, you can import the textures into art files too.
