Item 1: multiplayer test release.
What many I'm sure thought would never happen has finally come true. A release of the port featuring networking support has been made. There's no fancy in-game menus yet or pre-game launcher to get it going, but if you read the instructions in the release notes, or use a launcher like DukesterX (a version soon will support the new net code launching parameters), you should be pretty much fine to play network games across the internet or on your LAN. A future release will polish up the uglier aspects of launching netgames, so until then, have fun with this.
Item 2: no item 2.
Cheers

And while I remember, just a small warning. I'll take bug reports and whatnot about this release, but please don't expect any fixes for at least a week. I don't multitask terribly well, and real life is nipping at my heels, so I must do one job at a time if I can help it. I'll get back onto port work when I can manage it.

am i the only person who realizes Jonof's port is Duke 3D x 5? I move around like I'm on roids non-stop. I dunno... if its just me, I'll shut up.

i just wanted to say good job on the stero red/blue mode. even with the flickering i can tell the effect a lot more then in other games that have supported this in the past (like a special version of glquake looked almost flat) good luck on the finished version.
Can't wait to try multiplayer mode.
Edit:
Multiplayer works great. The wierd part is starting multiplayer from the single player menu. nice to finally see the 3d model version of duke in game.

That command is fine for the master of a three player game. The slaves should run "duke3d /net /n0 masterip".

Which files in particular do you want mirrored?

comand line bug
Thanks you Jonof and Ken for this great multiplayer code :)
Is it me or the command line /v and /l aren't working? I tried -map parameter and this one work but not the in-game custom map parameters...

All of them.
EdgeFiles FTP sites are "This page cannot be displayed" 95% of the time and it took me over 2 hours to get the binaries.
EdgeFiles is even slower than SnailPlanet and thats saying something :lol:
I normally get a friend in the USA to get them for me and email them but he's on vacation atm.
JonoF at
Well, the source and whatnot is now mirrored, so you can use the Coral or Freecache links to get them.

So my thing... is a bug? right? Really wanna play online... Or, what else am I doing wrong?
Here is where it gets stuck:
http://img113.exs.cx/img113/4623/bug0jl.th.jpg After that it is just... stuck.. I need to end it...
Also, this is what happens when I want to quit BUILD the way of the big red X or the way of the Right Click and EXIT:
http://img113.exs.cx/img113/9956/untitled2uq.th.jpg
And what have you done with BUILD?!! I cant work with it! It keeps exiting after sometime without explanatyion or saving, so I always have to start over?! It sucks... does any1 else have these problems?

Hi all, first thanks for the great DukeNukem port!
I have same problem like posted by ")))000(((" when i want to start a multiplayer game.
Tried out all command prompt options, peer to peer, master-slave, with DukesterX (the newest version), but it all ends in a stuck console "initcache(): Initialised by...." :(
Tested in on 4 Computers, all with WinXP SP2 (<- maybe this is the problem? :) )
maniac1701 at
nope it isn't xp sp2 (or at least not with professional) because thats what i use on this computer. im not sure whats on my other computer (don't use it often) i think its home + sp1 but i could be wrong. in either case the multiplayer worked just fine for me.

I had the same problem. Turns out I had a bad duke3d.GRP file. To get the game to work I had to get someone to send me their game zipped up (they had a working version).
)))000((( at
Original ATOMIC PACK .GRP file is bad?
Alien at
kengetz: But when you try to launch singleplayer, it rules? Except the 4 Epsiode, this one doesn't rule here (even not in singleplayer). Maybe you're right....can anyone send me a original 1.3d duke3d.grp file? ;-)
kengetz at
Yeah I had v1.3 then I got the atomic .grp. The game textures improved but I had no 4th episode. Oddly enough the same .grp worked for my friend so I must have been doing something wrong. Either way, he sent me his Duke folder and it works perfectly now.
AlgorithMan at
Are the commandline switches which are starting with / all disabled now? /m /l /v don't work...

ya they are gone... I don't know when Jonof will fix them. I'm waiting for it to publish my new ACRSetup Duke Launcher program :)
AlgorithMan at
damn, i'm working on a launcher too and need them for it either ;)
I'm just reading the jfduke source code... the code is still there, but i think the code for reading the net params causes the other params not to be red...
AlgorithMan at
i think the error is that the while-loop is continued at the marked line - if it wasn't continued, argv could be checked later...
game.c
while(i < argc)
{
c = argv[i];
if (((*c == '/') || (*c == '-')) && (!firstnet))
{
if (!Bstrcasecmp(c+1,"net"))
{
firstnet = i;
netparamcount = argc - i - 1;
netparam = (char **)calloc(netparamcount, sizeof(char**));
}
i++;
continue; // <------------- I THINK HERE IS THE ERROR
}
That's retarded - there's no way I'm using an old .grp file. Based on the fact that multiplayer doesn't work for me even to start a server by myself from the command line, it looks like we'll just have to wait for the next release.
)))000((( at
All of you with the problems have the 1.4 {ATOMIC EDITION} GRP file right?
Nxskingdom at
I have atomic edition... )))000(((

Actually
Yeah I can play Duke Nukem multiplayer with my brother who has the same version of XP as me but not with my friends who have XP professional. In fact they can play together but not with either me or my brother. Hehe wierd....

I'm getting the same freeze st startup as the rest of you. I tried three different versions of the game, each one froze. Could be anyting really, hopefully we'll see an update soon.

Awesome, TCs work beautifully now. Duke Caribbean works perfect, so do MSSP, Zero Hour, Starship Troopers, LA, Alienz, etc. I've yet to test Nuclear Winter.
Great job, and, thanks.
EDIT: Just tested Nuclear Winter. Works great. There doesn't seem to be music playing, though. But I'll look into that further.
EDIT2: No wait, music works fine. I just had it muted in the volume :oops:
