I could not resists asking you all this - what do YOU all wanna see in the future releases of Duke Nukem 3D {and BUILD}?
What do I want, you ask?

-> Ability to have Unlimited Decals {an option in the menu}

What good is listing running games if they can't be joined?

Be more specific.

No.

-> Modified Map Format Allowing Unlimited Amount of Walls, Space, Sprites, and Sectros
-> Upgration of the Night Vision Goggles Effect (Really It Sucks)
-> BOTS (Anything Smarter then the Atomic bots Would Do{Smarter = More Realistic})
-> Ability to -freely- Spectate Multiplayer games
-> Better Multiplayer HUD- So I could see the scores of all players (not just 4)
- TX -
-> Why is it a no to unlimited decals option in the options menu? It would ROCK!!!!!!!!! Well, unless you played long enth and ran autta RAM...

The game adds extra bars depending on how many players are in the game. The maximum number of players is sixteen, resulting in a maximum of four bars.

No not true sector over sector hasnt. What i want is like half life building. So I can build a box in mid air in a room just like you can in HL with out making it all out of sprites. It would make things so much easyer.
And to TX. If the bar would be starting to come down that far i think it would be good if we could bind a key to the bar so that it can be switched from solid to transparent. ect
Minion at
Half-Life is a BSP based engine which is essentially a true 3D environment.
Build maps are more similar (almost identical actually) to Cube maps in that they are not truely 3D maps. It's 2D, made up of sectors which only have 3 properties - Ceiling height, floor height, and textures.
Build will probably never see true 3D sector implementation because it would require redeveloping the entire current map system.

I did know all that....... I was just saying thats my biggest wish.
-Jk- at
the only thing I wish for is the in-game multiplayer menu and bugfixes. I really don't think much more is needed IMO :)

Nothing really, I do the same thing it's just that some people (especially those whose english isn't the best) don't want to navigate a site or read a news post on whether or not an update has been realeased. Plus, casual gamers won't bother searching for updates usually and if it fixes a fatal gameplay bug then they'll be stuck or something else could happen. Also, it'd make it easier for people to make sure they have the same version of the client if they plan on playing it over a LAN or the Internet.

I'd just like perfect multiplayer (ie. not laggy iwth 56k, no more out of sync, etc.). Then various bug fixes would be nice, too.
I don't care for this fancy stuff, like OGG/MP3 support... 3D models... etc.

Jonof, what do you say about this topic?
What we can see in new version of jfduke?

There are only a certain number of sprites the game can have and the option has to be the same on every machine to preserve sync. The value is configured in the CON file in a variable named 'QSIZE' and is currently 64. You could raise this if you like but it would have to be done on every machine in a multiplayer game. More trouble than it's worth if you ask me.
What we can see in new version of jfduke?
I don't know specifics yet. It's a matter of what's ready at the time. We'd like to have an attempt at the sync problem at the very least.

i have an idea if the sprite count must match on all machines to be synced properly why not just have an option in the menu and only the server gets to chose in a multiplayer game
or if its peer to peer just use the smallest count of all the players.

Just what every forum needs -- a dullard who has absolutely no idea how any part of the game or engine works yet still wastes time asking for all sorts of completely unrealistic crap.
What would I like to see? I'd like to see you get a clue. If you'd like all sorts of fancy new features, go play a fancy new game.

Sure, jokes (or any other off topic replies for that matter) might not be needed in this section of the forum since it's meant for proper discussion on the development of the JF ports.
But i'm just one of those guys who thinks that some more "light" replies would lighten up the place a little. O well. I guess I can find other forums for that.

Normal/bump maps highlight areas of a diffuse map based on light direction.
Since the build engine doesn't support light entities even if a material system existed normal maps would still be useless.
Something I used to do when mapping for Q3A was to fake the effect by simply making lots of versions of the same texture, doing fixed bumpmapping in photoshop. (filter->render->lighting effects, use greyscale alpha map as bump.) It's not as convincing as a normal map because it's just a heightmap but it works.
Edit: Better yet, although I haven't tried this one yet (and might not work depending on the current collision detection), since jfDuke supports static meshes you could theoretically model your entire level in something like max/maya. You'd get your full material system plus static lighting. When you're finished all you would have to do is remove the lights from the scene and bake the shadows/highlights into the textures.
Depending on how well it performs with intersecting meshes you might even be able to add sector effects (like door) to the map after modeling it.

He asked for ragdolls in another thread, as well as asking for infinite sprite/sector/wall limits. Then he asked why he can't get LameDuke to work with JFDuke3D. He's clueless. I didn't take it as a joke because it was a serious request from someone who seriously has no clue. It seems to me to be one of those situations where one might say "are you joking or are you just an idiot?", with the sad part being that he isn't joking.
It's a joke when it comes from someone who somewhat knows what they're talking about yet proposes something ridiculous anyway, and it's idiocy when someone who has no clue proposes the same thing. Does that make sense?
As for being serious.. no offense taken. Yes, at times I am quite serious, but anyone who actually knows me can attest that I'm quite a bit more articulate in actual conversation featuring actual intelligence -- unfortunately, both conversation and intelligence are often nowhere to be found on public forums. :p
-Jk- at
I see. I haven't read any of his other requests, so you're probably right.
JFDuke is still Duke, not some brand spankin' new 3D engine with ragdoll physics and all that.
anyway, thanks for clarifying :)

I nice update would be a game lobby so people can chat and stuff and setup games.. Like TEN.net was. Also is there a way to record kills deaths and by which weapon was used? So maybe I can make a website that can connect to it and record it.. :O
TEN had that also ;]

He asked for ragdolls in another thread,
So what?! Maybe, in five or six years {Duke Nukem Forever Release Date} that will become a reality.
as well as asking for infinite sprite/sector/wall limits.
Limitations should be taken off, or at least highly enlarged, so that people could create gigantic super detailed maps without any problems. We are in the 21st centure for gods sake, man! Computers can support 500* more shit then before!
> I already used over 3000 walls in my map, and I am not anywhere close of finidhing, so that is why I asked that as a request...
Then he asked why he can't get LameDuke to work with JFDuke3D.
I asked if there was a way to get LameDuke to work with JFDuke Port anyhow, cuz it sucked running from the original .exe. I am suprised that there is such a difference between LDuke and Duke 1.5... - Simple Misunderstanding.
He's clueless.
And you are an *****, well maybe, something more of the lines of a ***** *****

It was a lame joke.... :( :( but due to the fact that it talked about highly modern features in a nonsense type of a way and that it had 3 LOL smilies, any1 with a brain could have guessed that I was joking...
No offence, just clarifiing...

I believe Ken or possibly myself has explained somewhere in a public forum why the absolute limits to Build's sectors/walls/sprites values are 16384, but anyway... Build is limited to using a 14-bit number for the maximum number of sprites, walls, and sectors. This stems from past decisions that involve using a 'short' data type for this type of information, and having the top two bits of that 16-bit variable reserved. Fourteen bits give a maximum range of 0-16383, which is the number of sprites and walls now available in JFBuild under the V8 map format. To promote all the 16-bit values to 32-bit would obviously give near-limitless capability but it will mean the most radical and extensive modification of both engine and game that has been done to date. I can tell you right now it won't be me doing it all.
