Is there anyway I can use the plutonium pak expansion with the duke 3d port and if so how? Thanks in advance

Of cource you can use the expansion pack! I am using it right now...
1)Install normal Duke Nukem 3D.
2) Install the Expansion (plutonium pack).
3) Delete everythin exept the 43MB DUKE3D file.
4) Extract the JonoF port on top.

if you're running on a modern machine (and i assume that you are since you're playing jfduke), be aware that the plutonium pak may freak out when you try to install it. if it keeps telling you that you don't have enough memory, follow the directions below to patch the pak's installer so you can update your .grp file to the atomic edition.
same thing happened to me. the patch was a little surreal (crazy legacy stuff), but it works.
just a heads up in case you need it...

Using plutonium pack?
Sorry, but you actually have to pay to get the plutonium pack legally. It is not free, yet... I would post a link but, err you know... WAREZ is illegal by the law... Try searching on www.av.com or www.google.com, maybe you will be lucky...

Just tried this above method for myself. However, when it gets to the patching process, the program says patching failed, strike any key to quit. It then goes back to the desktop without fixing it.
I installed plain Duke3d first, then tried the v15 patch from the 3drealms site, when that's as far as I could get. If I try to install the pak from the CD, it says that error message that I don't have enough ram, of course.
So what am I doing wrong?

the port replaces the old dos executables duke3D.exe. It is a kind of 4-in-1 : it can play the role of the executable of the shareware version, the 1.3D version, the 1.4 tomic edition, the 1.4 plutonium pack.
All you need is the port, the Duke3D.grp file and the .con files (1.4 and 1.5 uses exactly the sames files if I have a good memory).
launch the port exec, it will automatically detect the version of your game thanks to the .con files and launch the game if the duke3D.grp match your version. It must be close to reality.

Actually, no it doesn't. There are no .con or .grp files on the Plutonium CD. The Plutonium Pak seems to want to try to update some files that's already installed in the Duke3d folder. I believe one of them is the .grp file.
At any rate, I cannot get this Plutonium Pak to install using that patch from 3drealms. There has to be a way to get this installer working in WinXP...

i don't have the plutonium pak but i do have an idea that might be worth a try. download the dosbox emulator and try installing the pak with that. i wouldn't want to run the game in that emulator (doom runs really slow), but i don't see why it would run the plutonium pak.

what i did was this (if i remember correctly... it has been a few months since i installed the pak):
first, i installed the registered version of duke from the cd to C:\DUKE3D (the default). then i put in the plutonium pak cd and got the error about not having enough ram. after i was through screaming at the disc (this box has 2gb, what does it mean i don't have "enough" ram?), i found the patch that i linked to above. with the pak cd still in the drive, i ran the patch, it took its sweet time updating, and then the pak successfully installed. then i grabbed the updated .grp file and saved it on another hdd to spare myself the trouble later on down the road. if you're using that patch, and the cd is in the drive, and duke successfully installed in the first place (but the pak still won't install), then i have no clue.
sorry! i mean, good luck! btw, i'm running xp pro, sp2.

That patch doesn't work for me. It just doesn't patch it up like it says its supposed to. As for the DosBox, I thought I had it working until I got this error message when I ran the patch.exe file: Applying MODIFY file patch for duke.grp "errorept0015: Old file does not exist"
maniac1701 at
it sounds like it can't find the game. where did you have your duke3d dirrectory mounted? my guess is you would want it mouted so you can run the game from c:\duke3d
so if I had it in d:\games\duke3d i would mount d:\games as c:\

I did like DOSbox asked for the example. I mounted C:\ under c:\dosprog, with the Duke folder being in C:\dosprog\Duke3d. It copied the patch files to that folder properly, but when I ran the patch.bat file, that's the error it gave me...

oh well it was worth a shot

Ok, I appreciate the help, though. I guess I just can't get the patch to run on my WinXP computer.
I did just try to install it on an older computer I have that has Win98se on it. I was so close to getting to work I could taste it. It started to patch some files and I was about to cheer loudly, but alas, it failed due to a file mismatch with the d3dhelp.exe file (or whatever the filename is) and was sooo disappointed. I tried a clean install, but again, same error message. I even tried the 1.3d>1.4 patch, but the same problem...
So, with all avenues exhasted on patching my copy, I'm going to ask this of someone. Would anyone be willing to send me their .grp file that had the Plutonium Pak/Atomic edition missions? I know that asking for this is considered warez, but I can prove ,within reason, that I own a legit copy of the Plutonium Pak. Here is a scan I just made (be aware, its about 360 kb). http://www.gb-blackknight.com/images/scan0008a.jpg
Please, anyone who would be willing, let me know. I just want to relive some old levels that I have not been able to play since way back when I first bought the game years ago...
