Hello
I'm looking to get a hold of an expansion pack for Duke3D called DUKE NUCLEAR WINTER. I collect addons, TCs, etc and its the only one I haven't been able to get a hold of. Does anyong know whaere I can get a copy? I've tried the usual places and no go. My last chance is to find someone with a copy and buy it, or get a download link tho I am assuming that it is not available for free. I am totally willing as far as buying a used copy. Of short of that, does anyone have any resources I can try?Thanx,
Frater D~D

Thanks for the info on site, I purchased a atomic disc. I had the 1.3D ver but lost atomic. DN was my first pc game still my best. I found Jono's site and went from there. I searched for site for 1.3D to 1.5 for three weeks of and on.
Thanks very much;

Please take off that link. I hate warez, and people who use warez. And Warez is illegal.

Nuclear Winter -=- How to play w/JFDuke?
I just got the Nuclear Winter addon. It seems to have duke3d.grp, same as normal Duke3d.grp and Nwinter.grp. I cannot select Nwinter.grp in the user map menu. I am sure I need to sedit the .con or .def files, but am unsure what to do.
Any ideas?

Looken for Nuclear Winter
Load the GRP file. On the command line, i think it's something like adding -xGRPFILENAME
Kent_dieGo at
Loading .GRP File
Well I tried adding -xGRPnwinter.grp to commad in shortcup to duke3d.exe but does not seem to work. Anyone have more ideas on how to play Nuclear Winter with JF Duke?

He He... You should use /g switch: "duke3d.exe /gnwinter.grp"
Launch duke3d.exe /? for comand line switches.

how do you install a addon for duke nukem 3d? the add-ons are divided into files what do you do once you got all of them for example duke nukem 3d caribbean beach what do you do whance you've got all those files? and how do you install it on winxp please someone help me. :D  :D
dcxboxfreak at
You have to unpack all the files in one directory with duke nukem 3d in it.
I think there should be an install program but im not sure.
but i don't think carrabean will work on xp because it doesnt run with the port, i think and im not sure.
And another thing is that if you wanna play nuclear winter you have to unpack it in the atomic edition duke nukem.(you can download it from the same webpage)
hope this helps :)

I have all three (DC, Caribbean, NukeWinter) working fine using JFDuke on XP SP2 so it is possible, but you have to manually install everything then use the /x and/or /g commands as necessary (JonoF has something called unpackssi which can unpack SunStorm files). It just takes a bit of time to figure out how it is all organised but isn't that bad.
You can use the official installers (ie., with TP/TC CRT 200MHz bug fix patches, where available) but you get that awful game manager thing, I just got hold of the .GRP files once installed and deleted the game manager :)

i forget the name of the website!

i can see you getting banned in the near future.

Reasons:
1) It's illegal. 3D Realms owns the game. If you want a copy you need to get it from them otherwise find something else to play.
2) As a person who works in software, piracy hurts ALL of the software industry, commercial and open source. Why would you use Gimp (a free open-source clone of Photoshop) when you can use pirated Photoshop? Now Adobe gets hurt because people are stealing their software and Gimp gets hurt because many of the people who would use Gimp are the ones who can't afford Photoshop. It's a lose-lose situation.
3) You should support the company. 3D Realms made a game we love therefore it's only natural that we should make sure they can support themselves so we can hope to someday see another.

i don't care if this topic is old but i do support 3drealms i have all the add-ons for duke nukem 3d except carribean beach and nuclear winter. i usted to have them but i don't no where they've gone?

What about the Duke Christmas add-on? Don't forget about that one! O... does anyone still put these titles out because if they're still sold (like at chips&Bits) then I'd be happy to pay for them... Anyone know??

personally, i cant stand people that use warez. it was one of the reasons for me to dump windows. i wouldnt ever pay for something that crappy and i didnt wanna keep on using an illegal version either. i'm trying to get people to swap their illegal MSOffice for the free OpenOffice, cause 80% of people i know doesnt buy it (the other 20% got it with their computer).
but imho, something you can't buy anymore isnt warez. its the grey area they call 'abandonware', and there's dedicated sites for such software all over the internet. duke and sw are still being sold by 3d realms, so dont fall in this category, but im not sure about the addons. i didnt see them in their list, so either they're not from 3dr, or they are abandonware by now.
but do you really think 3dr will still sell duke 10 years from now? heck, modern pc's dont even run it anymore. there will be a point where even duke becomes abandonware, and i wont give a crap about people downloading it then.

Well, they're still selling Commander Keen and Wacky Wheels so there's no reason to say that they wouldn't sell Duke 3d or SW in a decade. Thanks to JonoF I actually *can* run those games now.. and I can run Blood so-so as well (thanks in part to vdms sound). So it's not so bad... but still I wish ATARI would just release that code! argh lol (darn company policy!)
Oh well... I wish Gt Interactive (are they atari now??) was still around, I might've been able to purchase the add-ons direct from them.

How do you get the GRP files when the game manager install doesn't even work, under windows XP ??
edit - nevermind I found the "MakeGRP" program wich lets me create GRP archives with individual files
