Ok... time for another newbie come here with that miraculous idea that will certainly grant everybody a plausible JFBlood...
1-) Some guys once managed to make an agreement with Epic. They got the UT source code so that they could continue bugfixing the game. I'd post a link, but I don't have the site anymore... So, if Atari or Monolith is the owner of the rights or, more important, the source, JonoF could make a similar agreement and create a non-Open Source Port of Blood.
2-) Strife has never had it's source released because it was simply lost. So, they guys from ZDoom just decompiled the exe and built it into ZDoom with guts and guessing. Of course, doing the same with Blood would still be HARD AS HELL, but I think it could be achivable... (let's face it, even though Jonof knows how the build works and the only problems would be guessing how those tons of Blood specific code work, he don't have the time or will to make it like this)
3-) As a last resource, someone at Monolith could Er.. CARE for us and try to contact Atari for an agreement in the code release...

Idea 1: failed.
Idea 2: noone's applied for the job.
Idea 3: long discarded.

Someone actually tried idea number 1? Or you're talking about the aparently long dead UT fix group?
Maren at
Yes, at least 2 people are known to have tried without luck.
Falci at
Well... Ken Silverman himself could try...
Bah! He wouldn't have interest in this...
Looking in other directions... what about the other Build games? Witchaven 1, 2; Tekwar; Powerslave; NAM; Extreme Paintbraw; Redneck Rampage... what happened to each source code?
Fernando at
As far as I know, the original Witchaven source code was released some time ago, but I have no idea where you can find it nowadays.
Try searching in Google to see what you can find.

Well, it was sort of released. Basically, some random guy on the Internet showed up with it and said he got it from the original programmer. The source has no license and at this point it's rather unclear whether anyone can legally do anything with it or not.
Falci at
Well...
I guess JonoF or somebody else could get it and make a port. If anyone complain about it, they will probably only ask to remove the port from the net... like what happens to abandowares or warez.
But... of course, I could be wrong... son nobody is ever going to take the chance. :(
Ah... anyway... witchaven ain't that good...
GothOtaku at
That is true but it did have a few innovative things that placed it above other FPSes of the time. Compared to Powerslave and especially Nam I think it was pretty good.

I doubt JonoF (or anybody else) would feel much working on a project like this knowing he'd receive a cease and desist soon enough, making it a waste of time and effort.
wang-tan at
Cease and desist from who? Isnt jonof in australia? Are they going to extradite him or something if he wrote a port?
Retodon8 at
From whomever own the game intellectual property, meaning developer, or more probably publisher, or company which bought the publisher, or whatever. :)
It doesn't matter where JonoF is from, these things apply worldwide.
I'm just saying that until there is a legal source code release, it's illegal to have a copy of the code, or distribute software based on it.
I'm in Europe myself, and relatively safe from some of those silly law-things in America (where I'm assuming the game was conceived), but I'm sure that whomever owns the IP would try their best to get me to pay if I distributed a port.

The source won't be released, we won't have JBlood, period, get used to that as everyone else.
