I am into mapping and have a level that im wanting to release soon, but to really make it special I need someone who can tell me how to do something with the con files, thats if it can be done.
The biggest thing im wanting to do is make the distance that things start to become dark much further out. Most of your older 1st person shooters incoorperate this as a way to illustrate how things that are further away are always harder to see. While this is factual, it doesnt mean that the farther things are the darker they get.
This in most cases has little effect on maps made using build or mapster and can even be a good thing in certian circumstances, however because of the large scale of the level im currently making, certian rooms of mine are lacking contrast. in other words I cant get lights, or things that should reflect light look any brighter from there surrounding structures once you get far away from them. My bridge with lights looks really dim for having so many lights, and other things im working on in the same area are not looking like I want. If you want to get a better idea of what im talking about go to http://forums.3drealms.com/vb/showthread.php?t=17086
I posted some pics there that demonstrate this.
I have scrolled over all three con files briefly but I havent seen anything that struck my eye yet, However my understanding of the con files as of right now is very limited so at this point im looking for obvious file names. ""ive always been more of a mapper than being someone to have the patience to write a program"" :D
This may not be editable in the con file so I was thinking it may perhaps be possible to change one of the rarely used palates like the bright green night vision palate and give it new rgb and shade settings. I dont know for sure if doing that would help, but im looking for any possible trick or workaround to help resolve this
Let me know if you can help, I really need it with this. thanks

I'm starting to think that maybe you're just looking for the visibility setting for sectors. Point at a sector in 3D mode and press '+v; a value of "240" is about the brightest it gets I think.

Shit, Ive bin trying to remeber that key 4 ages. But i felt like to much of a noob to ask... Are you able to increase this value any higher in you next release by any chance TX or is there some sort of limitation?

Perfect
Thats just what I was looking for, thanks. Now I can leave the con files be for now.
I do plan to edit a couple of the bosses so that they play as mini bosses without dying after being shot for the first time but this shouldnt be difficult, I don't think.

The answer is no. Not only is 256 different settings enough, but you can't just go changing shit like that anyways. It really doesn't work that way.
