I felt that the only way I could have maintained a future with 3DRealms was to go into direct competition with the Quake engine. I was far behind in engine technology, and I wasn't interested in doing non engine-related work.
Also, I was afraid of making another multi-year commitment with them. This would have killed any chance of me finishing college while I was still young. I felt badly about not finishing school. I felt like I lost respect from my parents. In retrospect, finishing school wasn't very worthwhile. I pretty much just sat in my room and used the computer all day. I didn't take advantage of the social opportunities. Also, I didn't learn much that was useful to programming.
My silly answer is: I don't care for Texas because it's not a "blue" state : P

Good job you didn't get involved with Duke Nukem: Forever. You'd be there until you were ninety.

They need to rename it Duke Nukem Never.
I believe 3DRealms is lost without Ken. Look at 'em! They're just stalling for time until Ken can dash into their lives and make the snazziest BUILD game ever. :P

Question, What are you doing now? programing for money at all?

He's currently working as a stripper, and does bachelorette parties on weekends.

Cryo, even if that was true, how would you know that? I hate it when people make up stuff like that. There are ways to get people's attention without resorting to lies.
These days, I do a mix of volunteer work, updating projects on my website, and research. I make no money doing any of the above. I've been helping a few local students (high school & college) with various programming projects. I haven't done much research (such as playing around with new engines) lately, but I hope to get back to it soon.

For what it's worth, I don't think Cryo meant you to take offence.
Well, anyway, I think it's cool that you take time to help out other people with programming and stuff.
I'm curious, what sort of things are you researching?

Heh... Sorry about that. I hardly think anyone would actually confuse it for a realistic answer though. It's more of an 'upbeat random conversation starter' than a 'lie'. Someone made a topic just like this one the other week, and I felt this conversation was in need of being livened up a bit. I suppose I should post a little more before commenting like that though, as my posts are generally a lot more meaningful and well thought out. Just because I have been stopping by this forum on a daily basis, I tend to not notice that I haven't actually posted very much here yet. : )
