So what do voxels have to do with the movie The Day After Tomorrow? The Storm engine used to render the movie's water and weather effects used voxels.

I just figured that maybe Ken was right in that there's an untapped potential in voxels after all and with is knowledge he could be setting on a gold mine.

I don't doubt his ability to do what that guy did but I'm not sure if ken would want to do that :\ meh I don't know what kens likes and dosn't but I'm very sure he would have little trouble with things like that :) he did make a voxel engine after all :D (well helped make one ;) )

You're talking serious processing power here, and serious processing power = serious budget. It's not feasible to take on the established post-production houses, who have major cash to splash and well established technologies - as well as a huge staff base.

I didn't mean for Ken to compete with them but rather work with them since they have the budget and the machines and Ken has the skills.

How does this relates to HLSL? Are shaders a type of particle effect? Here it says he took particle effects and somehow morphed them into Voxals.

Actually he said. "The results were then plugged into Storm, which transformed each particle into a cluster of larger 3-D pixels called voxels" From the article it sounds like they used particles in the animation system then used voxels for the renderer.
