I have noticed that most famous game programmers all say in their
interviews that they aren't play games anymore.
Isn't this a little ironic, how can they make games when they don't enjoy playing.
I don't know about you but i feel that time has come for fps to be replaced by other
genre games,i felt the same way about the side scroller spaceship shooters(r-type style)
of the arcades in the mid nineties and the beat em up games (final fight and street fighter 2 clones).
Doom 3 and half life 2 they are boring single player games and remember they are the top fps for 2004.HL2 is the only game that i couldn't keep on playing it until i finish it,i was bored so i uninstall never to return in my hard drive.I know some stuff about level
design and d3 to me is like repeat{if step on invis trigger then spawn stupid monster case stupid moster:(30 stupid monsters) }until trigger>infinity. The engine was ready from late 2000 and they release the game at summer 2004.Lots of triggers to be placed,64bit infinity precision :) breakthrough engine features for one more time.
I don't mean to accuse these games but this is 2005 and gamers want more complex
games(more vr games) they don't want arnold scwharzeneger style games where you
kill a billion of identical enemies, push buttons and find keycards.
The only reason that they develop single player game mode is to sell the game at high price and unlike carmack said games aren't like porn movies they need scenario.

Yes you are right. But the are many other games. Very complex ones Remember Settlers 2 than see waht they make in Settlers 5 it is almost more Warcraft then Settlers. Most series die. Or better most series going mainstream dies. But there are many great Games out there. Remembering Clonk or Battle Cruiser 3000AD or Ultimate Combat. Also Trade Empires is unique. Most programming games like RoboShips rocks too. Also FPS seems not dead but my favourites are Shadow Warrior and Shogo never found better FPS. It is hard to get better.
There could be games like build two castles in full 3D then each player distroy the other one. I think future is mixit massive multiplayer network gaming. Where one player build the city, Second does transport Tycoon and third manage Police. Fourth to seventh start gangwar. And eight goes little shoping for new dress.
Also games where you massivle deform landscape would be nice. Like building Dwarfen fortress.

So true, both are great games. I'm surprised you mentioned Shogo since that's such a cult game. Surprisingly, many people still play it religiously online (including myself) and new updates and patches are released periodically by the community.
