Anyway, I was wondering if you'd seen the new album from Ben Folds? The reason I ask is because a) it's called 'Songs for Silverman' and b) it features Al Yankovic on backing vocals for the track 'Time'.
Seems like too much of a coincidence to me!

PS. Feel free to dump this in 'Idle Chatter' - it's hardly relevant to much in this section.

Yeah, I wondered about that too. I can dream, but I have no reason to believe that has anything to do with me.

They are both talented musicians who happen to have nerdy looks. I'm not surprised they're friends. BTW, Ben Folds played piano in "Why Does This Always Happen To Me" on Al's latest album called 'Poodle Hat'.
Here's something I found on Al's site a few years ago:

Midnight Star "Ask Al" Q&As for April, 1994
...
Q: Rumor has it you like gaming - both role-playing & board games. If this is true, do you like the Dragon Lance series? (Staff of the MS)
A: I have to admit I'm not familiar with it. Mostly I waste a lot of time playing computer games like "Doom" and "Wolfenstein 3-D."
You can infer what you want from that. Could he have played Duke 3D? I'd say it's not unlikely : )

I'll keep this here : )

I just did a bit of research and I managed to pull up this scrap of information:
Entitled Songs For Silverman, it turns out that the title is meaningless: there is no Silverman. Made following the split of his famed trio, Ben Folds Five (they of the rousing ballad Brick) in 2000, Songs For Silverman is a bold album complete with an Elliott Smith tribute, a song for his daughter Gracie, guest vocals by Weird Al Yankovic and more of the wry observations that have made Folds the nerdy baron of pop.
So, hey - I think you should claim that Silverman spot if it's up for grabs. :-)

If song object positions are open, I'll make a bid for:

You're so vain, you probably think this song is about you
You're so vain, I bet you think this song is about you, don't you, don't you?
: )
Never did buy any of Ben Folds' albums. I was always quite fond of 'Underground' by the Five, though.
Do you have any of the albums, are they any good?

I have Whatever and Ever Amen, Ben Folds Live and Songs for Silverman. The live album is great, and comes with an 8-song DVD too - well worth it's modest price tag.
